Rock Paper Scissors variant.
PLAYERS: 2-5
OBJECTIVE:
This version of Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) is won by the last person standing. The game starts out with a constant rhythm, players are required to identify the trumping hand from RPS by pointing gestures. The longer the round goes the faster the rhythm will naturally become until the round ends. The round ends when someone fails to perform the correct pointing action, when this happens the person is eliminated. The game continues with the remaining players until all but one player is eliminated.
RULES:
1. All players must count 1,2,3 and display one of the Rock, Paper or Scissors hand gestures, revealing their hand at the same time. Below is a image which displays the hand gestures and corresponding pecking order.
NOTE: The game is not won by displaying the trumping hand gesture during the round, but by being the last person to continually execute the correct pointing action, see below.
2. Once the RPS is displayed you have one count on the next phase to perform the correct pointing action. The pointing action is held for three counts. Table below displays the possible outcomes.
Outcome
|
Player must do
|
A clear winner
|
All players must point at the winner. Including the winner.
|
All different or more than one winner
|
All players must point down.
|
Everyone is the same
|
All players must point up.
|
Failure to perform the correct pointing action will end the round and the offending player is eliminated.
3. If all players perform the correct pointing action, the round continues with players holding the pointing action for three rounds followed by a RPS, repeating rules 1-3 until someone makes a mistake.
4. Players will naturally want to speed up the rhythm in order to encourage elimination of fellow competitors. As the rhythm speeds up, competitors need to increase their concentration in order to avoid making errors.
How does this change the game and why does it make it better?
-This version is not a significant departure from the original RPS
-Allows for multiple players
-Winning requires concentration to win rather than relying on random chance
-The longer the gameplay, the faster and more challenging the rhythm will naturally become, increasing the intensity and pressure.
